One Saturday afternoon, eight year old Tim and his mother Sarah are picked up by a deranged taxi cab driver, Bob, on the hunt for his next victim. To his horror, Tim witnesses his first murder, the murder of his mother, but it would not be his last. Bob keeps Tim as a slave, locking him up and forcing him to clean and bury the bodies of the young women he drags home. Now a teenager, Tim learns he will be allowed some freedom if he becomes a killer himself. Jennifer Lynch’s latest film, <Chained> has a very interesting premise; a serial killer trains a kid to be another serial killer. The question is ‘will he become one just like him’? Lynch takes advantage of this premise really well and did a successful job to intrigue the audiences. And it is what makes this film different from other serial killer films. Not every director can do it even if they have a unique premise like this one. It is the Lynch’s peculiar direction that do the job just like she did on her controversial film Boxing Helena.
