Program Note
Based on Nakagami Kenji’s novel of the same name, Wakamatsu’s latest film, <The Millennial Rapture>, recounts the stories of three young men born to the Nakamoto clan ? the handsome Hanjo; Miyoshi, the head of the gang and a distant uncle of Hanjo and Shinichiro, a good-looking but deep-scarred man ? who are all seemingly doomed from birth to be led by their passions into catastrophe. Starring Shinobu Terajima, who won the 2010 Berlinale Silver Bear for Best Actress in Wakamatsu’s <Caterpillar>, this film is a somewhat restrained affair both politically and in explicitness for the director, but is no less strictly adults only.
