Program Note
There is usually one full moon every month. In those rare months with two, the second one is called the "Blue Moon." The saying goes that if you wish on a blue moon, you′ll given a second chance. At first, this film seems to be a simple love story about urban sophisticates in Taipei. A-Gua, Yifang and Cuenshu are two men and a woman who look for love in the complexities of the modern day. They sometimes meet in a restaurant named "Blue Moon." Guenshu is a writer content with his cup of tea, some nice music, his writing projects. He has a pleasant relationship with his son, his ex-wife and live-in boyfriend. One day his regular life is turned around when he walks in the wrong direction, getting caught between gunfire. As a story, Blue Moon is full of as many possibilities as life itself. At the flatbed, A-Gua′s editor exclaims that the five reels of the film they are producing can be intermixed with up to 120 variations of the story resulting. How many potential stories are there between two men and one woman? Blue Moon at times lacks depth of feeling, but is full of the tricky questions that each moment of our days hinge on. (Im Hyun-Ock) At times there can be two full moons in a month, that particular second full moon is then called a “blue moon.” This film? main characters are three men and woman thriving for love and survival in a modern city. Blue Moon is not a depiction of just one story, and each story can be switched randomly yet still comes out a complete story.
