Program Note
It is in Paris in the early 1970′s which was shaken by the May 1968 protests. Gilles dreams of becoming an artist. After his girlfriend Laure leaves for London, Gille is surrounded by political and artistic changes. He has to make a final choice to find his own place between extreme commitment and personal dream. The film made by Assayas, a world-renowned French director is special in that it describes the 1970′s just after the May 1968. The director describes the power of the young dreaming of and devoted to a better future and their serious but free spirit. He doesn′t forget to show how they adjust to their everyday life. Youth and love make a lovely pair. Separation, reunion and the couple missing each other on the way constitute pure love touching the audience′s five senses with beautiful scenes. Youth has something tragic in it. Through the destiny of the artist Laure, Assayas transforms a short, precious moment into an eternal one. By doing so, he remembers the lost past in which there still was dreaming of revolution and art at the same time. (RHEE, Soue-won)
