A tragic love story of Rabia Balkhie who was a royal princess and a legendary poet. Rabia falls in love with an escorting warrior who was a slave. Not only their love story but also the process of filmmaking is touching. Attracted by this legendary story, Mohammad Nazir devoted his life to the completion of the film. However, despite its high production cost, the film failed to attract the audience and Nazir died soon after. This film depicting the couple who became the victim of the royal family’s conflict over winning royal authority is regarded as the most beautiful and dramatic one among all Afghan films. The splendid costume, film set and beautiful camerawork fully express Afghanistan’s greatest legend combining spectacular battles and delicate emotions. (CHO Young-jung)
