Program Note
The film was originally a cinematization for the <Birth of Happiness>, a popular series of the radio soap opera where a tough and benefic female character was created. The film was starred by a shining actress Do Gum-bong who had covered a diversity of characters ranging from a femme fatal at her debut film <Hwang JinHee> (1957) to the innocent Shim chung who sacrificed herself for her blind father, and finally made her representative character. The success of the film wouldn’t be possible unless Director Park Sang-ho described the lives and the hopes of the humble people in detail, who lived their lives to the full then in difficult circumstances. The character of a lively young woman in the 1960’s who were ready to do anything to earn money and love is to be revitalized to meet the audience today. (CHO Young-jung)
