Program Note
The story starts with Cremer, a stylist of deviant sexuality, who designs a floral pattern on a blue background. When Loohman, owner of a textile factory, decides to produce the fabric, he starts a fight with Van Tilt, his artistic consultant. Stella is the first owner of the garment. She is an old housewife and she is overcome by fatal desires when she puts the dress on. The second owner is Johanna. Her boyfriend Herman, an artist, decides to include the pattern in his painting. When Johanna wears the dress, she first gets molested by De Smet, a railway ticket collector, and then by a bus driver. The dress, which in the meantime has been shortened and made to look even sexier, then goes to Chantal. De Smet follows her and makes her have a strange experience. In the park, Chantal′s bag containing the dress is stolen by Marie, a middle aged homeless woman, who decides to put it on to keep herself warm. Marie cannot find ways to survive in winter. She dies and is cremated wearing the dress. In a museum De Smet wildly cuts up Herman′s painting.
