It is easy to say that the modern history of Asiaisa history of seismic changes. However, it is never easy to imagine how many decisions and how much effort a man living that history has to carry out to become the person he is now. And, what is beyond his decisions and efforts?Traces of a Dragon is a documentary film about Jackie Chan and his family. After the 1970s, Hong Kong made its spectacular debut as the heart of Asian film making. Of all the personalities of that period, Jackie Chan was one of the most outstanding dragons. At that time, his two half-bothers, older than him, lived to tally different lives in the Chinese mainland, and so did his two older sisters. Until recently, Jackie Chan knew nothing about them. Featuring archival pictures, the film narrates how his father entered the secret service and left for Hong Kong to flee from the Communists. It also shows how his mother, who raised her two daughters, comes to Hong Kong and finally meets her current husband. For Jackie Chan′s family, who lived at a time when open executions and a war are witnessed, this history is never easy, and viewers are deeply moved by their story. This film combines personal history and national history, and depicts Jackie Chan as a member of an ordinary family. Traces of a Dragon is the family history of Jackie Chan and at the same time the modern history of China. (Kwon Yong-min)
