A fascinating dòcumentation of an unconventional performance with the same name, involving actors, dancers and 30 farm workers from poorer regions of Sichuan province who now labor on Beijing building sites. It took place in the production hall of a former textile factory slated for demolition as part of capital′s rapid modemization. The filmmaker′s aim was to create an artwork focusing on people who are not normally at the center of things, people who are needed to modernize the city of Beijing and then quickly forgotten again. Wu Wen guang is considered a "well versed man" in the world of Chinese documentary. His Dance with Farm Workers is very valuable work that is replaceable with nothing among neo-documentary films. He has focused on interdisciplinary projects in recent years: publications, performance, directing, etc. In the summer of 2001, he organized an experimental performance at an incomplete construction site. While some modem dancers and scores of workers began to dance surrounded by a crowd, he pushed through the throng with a DV camera by himself at the site.
