Program Note
A woman who works in a post office does not like her unrelenting mother. Her incompetent father leads a spiritless life. Her mother is always mean to her father, complaining that he is incompetent. When her father leaves the house, the woman gives up traveling abroad to search for nim. When she arrives at her parents′ hometown she finds her mother in her youth, looking just like herself. She stays there, watching her parents as a young couple in love. me young couple do not exist in real time, but to the dauahter they seem more than real. The past memories that fill the present represent a past that is not yet over, but still lives on. It may be a past that reflects the hopes of the daughter. The beautiful couple is a warm consolation for the daughter. But at the same time, it achingly shows what time and life have done to them. The film has a warm sensitivity, looking at lives with neither hope nor despair. The creative use of flashbacks is impressive.
