Based on the novel by Dirk Kurbjuweit - who also wrote the screenplay - Gun-Shy is a poetic thriller which depicts one man′s desolation and disintegration. Lukas is a solitary soul who spends his days delivering meals on wheels. He has no friends and his only real contact comes from some eclectic neighbors and a diver he occasionally sees on the river. His life is turned upside down by the appearance of - and separation from - beautiful, sad Isabella. Lukas transforms from a misunderstood misfit admirer into an unstable and unpredictable loner. Director Dito Tsintsadze tells a melancholy story of the human condition, "a story of people′s unfulfilled hopes and passions, our failure and survival." Our modern, hectic, crowded yet somehow anonymous lives are reflected through the camera work: a slow steady glide when Lukas is at peace on the water; hand-held and frenzied for when Lukas is out of his element in the uncomfortable city. As one character says, "there is no community anymore; people don′t even know what community means anymore."
