Program Note
Kuldesak focuses on four young inhabitants of Jakarta in the 1990s. They all have dreams, but sometimes life forces them to make radical choices. Aksan, in need of money to fund his film, decides to steal from his rich father. Andre, a musician who identifies with Kurt Cobain and his suicide, seeks comfort from a fortune teller. Dina, a movie theatre ticket seller loses her grip on reality as she obsesses over a TV host. Lina, who works for an ad agency, seeks revenge after being raped.

Mira Lesmana
She is one of the most effective producer on Indonesia in this generation. She directed [Kuldesak] with Rizal Matovani, Nan Achnas and Riri riza and made the New Wave of Indonesian Cinema. Also she produced [A Little Gayo Singer](1995), [Sherina’s Adventure](2000), [What’s Up with Chinta?](2002), [Eliana, Eliana](2002) etc. She keeps changing all the record of the box office of Indonesian cinema with the success of her films.

Nan T. Achnas
Nan Achnas earned a directing degree from the Jakarta Institute of the Arts and a master’s degree in Film Studies at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. She directed and co-wrote Whispering Sands (2000), a feature-length film that won nine international awards.

Rizal Mantovani
He has a degree in Architecture and have been working in the industry since 1991. To date, he has around 200 music videos under his belt, several television programmes and commercials. [Kuldesak], his first feature became the first of several films bearing the "New Indonesian Cinema" title. His second feature [Jelangkung], a horror film which he directed with fellow music video director Jose Poernomo, became a major box office hit in 2002.

Riri RIZA
Riri Riza graduated from the Film Department at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts, and received his Masters in Screenwriting from the Royal Holloway University of London, UK. In 2002, he wrote and directed the award winning [Eliana, Eliana]. He wrote and directed [Gie] in 2005, which won Best Film at the Indonesian Film Awards. His film [The Rainbow Troops], was released last September and broke the record for Indonesia's biggest box office film.
