Program Note
The Mountain is the latest work by Thomas Salvador, the director who debuted with Vincent (2014). This time Salvador plays the roles of the lead actor, director, and screenwriter. In a plot that seems to follow up on themes from his previous film (in which a man becomes a superhero with the energy of water) the story of a man who turns his back on his former life and lives in a tent in a remote area of Mont Blanc seems an intentional choice. Salvadors no-nonsense, straightforward approach blends and mystery. While giving a presentation at a business meeting, Pierre stares at Mont Blanc mountain through the window of his office, feeling drawn to it. Pierre leaves his job and life behind and climbs the mountain to encounter an unexpected existence. This is no ordinary mountain-climbing film. Each person′s interpretation of the face-to-face encounter with the unknown will be different, but no one can deny the experience of an unprecedented calm world. Due to the clear and transparent charm of the snowy mountain, The Mountain has established itself as a very special mystery. (LEE Yong Cheol)
