Since Lukas Dhont introduced a young transgender dancer’s portrait with Girl (2018), this talented director has continued to explore the complexities of sexual identity and adolescence. Two thirteen-year-old boys, Leo and Remi, live in a pastoral village with their families and share an intimate friendship that seems to be unbreakable. However, when their peers at school begin picking on them and mocking them, their relationship gets disrupted and eventually leads to a tragic accident. The scenery of the countryside in the film looks like a paradise lost where love and friendship are not defined with assertive words or social identity. Lukas Dhont completed a solitary and beautiful melodrama about the loss of innocence in adolescence with two brilliant actors (Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele).
