Program Note
"Mugando," the road to hell where extreme suffering is eternal, is the original title for the film Infernal Affairs, which tells the story of two men who are enemies but also the only people who can understand each other. Chen Wing Yan, an elite police cadet, is sent undercover into a criminal organization, while Lau Kin Ming and other newcomers to the criminal organization must survive in the police academy. Ten years later, Chen Wing Yan and Lau Kin Ming rise to positions of trust in their respective organizations. Infernal Affairs recalls the long-forgotten Hong Kong’s noir film and invite the audience into the dark yet captivating world of tight-knit suspense and action. Above all, the impressive performances of Tony Leung and Andy Lau, each with his own charms, are a reason to watch this film again. (PARK Sun Young)
