Program Note
The Black Pharaoh, the Savage and the Princess the latest film by Michel Ocelot, the french animation master who directed the legendary Kirikou and the Sorceress (1998). This fantastic adventure piece takes us to Egypt, Africa, Auvergne, and Türkiye. The heroes of three stories are boys and girls who resist to authority and injustice and are exciting enough to be introduced in the One Thousand and One Nights. The director brings a broad spectrum of characters on stage from the Egyptian gods to the brutal tyrants of Auvergne and Türkiye. He invites audience to a feast of fascinating colors and a journey into time by presenting delicate pictures of traditional arts in each country. Once you walk into the world of magic he creates on the giant screen of Open Cinema, you will have the mysterious experience that the film unfolds as if it is alive right in front of your eyes.
