Program Note
On Saturday, June 23, 2018, in Northern Thailand, a group of youth football team enters the cave to relax after practice. The sunny weather suddenly turns into heavy rain due to the rainy season that started earlier than usual. The twelve boys and the coach find the exit blocked by rapidly bowing water, and have to go deeper. A national park ranger finds the parked bicycles in front of the cave, and an emergency is declared.
Adding to the Thai officials and forces, US Indo-Pacific Command, as well as experts from China, the UK, and other countries, join the rescue camp. While the critical time is clocking, there are numerous challenges and difficulties the rescue team faces. In spite of all the hardship, the boys and the coach miraculously survives drinking water dripping from stalactites for 17 days, eventually all saved. The script adapted from actual events was written by the director Tom WALLER who cast some real figures to convey extreme reality recreated until the ending credits. (PARK Sungho)
