The CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy (BAFA) held its opening ceremony on September 26 (Sat), marking the start of a 20-day creative journey for this year’s 24 fellows.

Celebrating its 20th edition, BAFA introduces a new format this year: instead of completing a short film, fellows will create “pilot shorts (Proof-of-Concept)” to demonstrate the potential of their feature-length projects.
With close guidance from leading mentors, the fellows will produce a total of eight short films to be screened during BIFF. The program will conclude with an awards ceremony, where selected fellows will receive awards that include opportunities for global follow-up support. 🎬🏆

Under the theme ‘Exploring the Possibilities of Contemporary Cinema,’ Forum BIFF brings together ideas and perspectives on where cinema stands today—and where it may be heading amid rapid change.
Across four sections and eight sessions, this year’s forum moves beyond diagnosis to explore new possibilities for cinema. Director KIM Jong-kwan, whose The Table: Day and Night is the opening film of this year’s BIFF, and JIA Zhang-Ke, a leading figure in contemporary Chinese cinema, will serve as keynote speakers. ✨

Section D explores public-private collaboration and the role Busan can play as a sustainable city of film in the face of the climate crisis.
