Program Note
Once, a little girl was alive. This stark and uncompromising film follows an adolescent girl′s harrowing odyssey into individual memory and modern Korean history. A casualty of the political upheaval that rocked South Korea in the 1980′s, her family is dead and she barely escapes from a mass of corpses ensued after the Kwangju massacre. Destitute, homeless and delirious, she sets off vaguely toward Seoul. She stumbles upon Jang, a construction worker who treats her with violence and compassion. She has the bodily survived rape, guns, and poverty, but can her soul recover from a trauma so profound?
