Program Note
Kim Soo-Gil is a director with great talent as a screenwriter. Perhaps living on a foreign island has endowed him with this gift. He wrote Yun′s Town (89), directed by Korean-Japanese filmmaker Kim Woo-Sun. In this film, the friendship between two high school students takes place against the beautiful landscape of Akita. Shigeru is outgoing and dreams of entering art school. His best friend Shinji is introverted and dreams of becoming a poet, haunted by mysterious death of his father. One day they meet a girl and a triangular relationship evolves. As the relationship grows complicated, Shinji is barefoot in the snow covered streets of the night. (Yang Shinon)
