Program Note
On a hot summer night, 1983. A young Chinese engineer Vincent Chin was killed on a street in downtown Detroit. The killers, Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz were found not guilty for first degree murder, instead they were fined $3,000 and given 3 years′ probation. The court decision enraged Asian communities across the country, justice and a retrial were demanded. The case continued for five years until federal civil rights violation charges were brought against the killers. The film depicts the racial conflicts within the government′s justice system, the media and the minds of citizens in America.
