Program Note
Conveying the passion of Japanese ultimate fighters and their lives, this film follows these high-octane wrestlers as they are about to participate in a Pancrase Tournament in March, 2013, and examines their dreams and hopes. In order to be the ultimate fighters, it is necessary to possess mental strength as well as physical strength and agility so that they can overcome pain or defeat. Everyone has their own dreams and fears, regardless of who they are. A young man who has fallen valiantly or the one who thirsts for victory and success, or an old man who is deeply attracted to the spell of sport and constantly returns to the fighting ring. Hybrid introduces these players by following their individual lives and the process of their training. When the players go onto the ring stained with their own blood and sweat, audiences will desperately hope for their victory. Bringing a dramatic sport story into a documentary, this film offers exciting drama that can be enjoyed by fans and nonfans of ultimate fighting alike. (CHO Young-jung)
