Program Note
A former firefighter and happy father of two children now lives an ordinary life running a flower shop. Then one day his quiet life is turned upside down when one of his children is kidnapped. In order to get his child back, the father has to do what the abductor wants: kidnap another kid as targeted by the kidnapper. What would you do if the kidnapper wanted you to abduct a child you did not even know to get your own back? This ethical dilemma is the unique predicament presented in Guardian. The father takes the kid chosen by the abductor to his house and now has to bring this kid to the kidnapper in exchange for his child’s safe return. Will the man and his kid return home safely after overcoming this situation? That would be the expected ending for a commercial Hollywood film, but Guardian continues to push its ethical dilemma to the very end. (NAM Dong-chul)
