A children’s animation film with sensational colors and cheerful music. Goopi loves to sing no matter what other people say about it. All the villagers get too tired of his everlasting singing, and at last ask him “spread your singing to the world, but do not come back again.” As Goopi begins his journey, he run into a drummer Bagha who are in the same shoes. They immediately become best friends. Then a ghost in the dark forest tell them that he enjoyed listening to their music, so he grants 4 wishes. The director Shilpa Ranade took courage for her feature debut to remake The Adventure of Goopi and Bagha (1969), which is directed by the legendary Indian master Satyajit Ray(1921-1992) for his own son. The style of this animation is charming, yet different from American, Japanese or European. The simple plot, lots of joyful musical scene and happy ending are stereotypically Bollywood. The message, that one should find his own way to spread love and peace in the world, might also be good for the cinema as an entertainment. (PARK Sungho)
