Program Note
A shocking exposure of a Tondo, a slum of Manila, this film displays the raw truth about drug, violence, sex and organized crime by teens from the point of view of 10-year-old Ebet. Ebet is a premature child who has been exposed to the violent reality of his environment, where the difference between a child and an adult is meaningless. He numbingly accepts the gun shots, sex, and death around him, knowing no other positive value other than the love of his family. It is tragic to see Ebet reacting to death with calmness and without sadness because it is the true face of a child becoming to accustomed to violence.
Director Jim Meer LIBIRAN mostly casts Tondo area residents as actors and describes the gloomy lives of Tondo through rough camera work and cynical dialogue. (Kim Ji-suk)
