Program Note
On the way to his mother’s funeral, a detective accidentally hits a person with his car. He takes the body with him and puts it into his mother’s coffin. The moment he feels relieved, he receives a call. This caller insists that he saw the detective’s hit-and-run, but instead of asking for money, he wants to know about the body’s whereabouts, leading to a do-or-die showdown of the witness and detective. Among many scenes providing cinematic humor and wit, one of the most outstanding is the scene of the detective hiding the body. The suspense surrounding the possibility of getting caught, the detailed direction builds tension, and the harmony of clever props and sounds all contribute to create a cohesive package. Also delightful is the brilliant acting of Lee Sun-kyun and Jo Jin-woong, who play the detective and witness, respectively, exhibiting the balance between bold physical action and their emotional interplay. As only the second feature by Kim Seonghun in eight years, this film exhibits the result of long-planned, hard work. (NAM Dong-chul)
