Program Note
Though it starts with a mystery, this film scrutinizes human relationships in the end. The setting is a humble apartment in Manila. The dead body of a four-month-old baby is discovered. Nora, the landlady of the apartment, asks Bong to investigate the affair since the police were not active looking into the matter. Bong comes to know each tenant whose occupation, race, and age are all diverse. Bong gets close with Apple, who lives on the first floor, but feels a letdown after learning about her veiled past. But nobody really knows all the aspects of others. Nora is having trouble with her husband and Bong with his wife. There also exists a nice girl who secretly takes care of an old man, named Chiu. Searching for the suspect slowly falls into oblivion and the relationships between the people in the apartment is what leads the film. The process of the story does not directly answer the audience’s purpose, but we may find our own aspects between these cohabiting, lonely people. (KIM Ji-Seok)
