Program Note
Alisha, a daughter of a rich family, has never had a relationship with anyone else with the exception of her dolls. She is tormented nightly by the nightmare of her mother who killed herself with a pistol. One day, she sees Bari cleaning up a swimming pool, falls in love with him and moves to the house next door to his. Living with his girlfriend Renta, Bari has been writing a novel about his neighbors, but the incompleteness of life prevents him from finishing it. After Bari shows the unfinished novel to Alisha, however, all the neighbors’ lives begin to change. Their apartment building is a miniature of the world, and closing that world will put an end to Bari’s book. Indonesian director Mouly Surya guides audiences deliberately to a mixed up land of dream and reality in her first feature film. (KIM Byeongcheol)
