Program Note
The youths in this movie deal with the obstacle of reality in pursuit of their big dreams and passions. Even though their disappointments leave them with irreversible scars, they are still young and hopeful. Wind of September, a movie directed by Tom Shu-Yu Lin, is a movie about youngsters and a movie about growing up in which the love, friendship, and despair of vigorous high school kids are warmly described. In a high school in Taiwan, nine friends including Yen and Tang are freely enjoying their youth just before graduation. The leader of this group, Yen, keeps dating other girls even though he has a girlfriend in his class. On the other hand, Tang, Yen’s closest friend, secretly loves Yen’s girlfriend. One day, their vulnerable friendship begins to collapse due to a sudden accident. The story of the despair and hope of these youths is beautifully displayed against the backdrop of the 1996 Taiwan baseball fraud that shook up the entire country. (KIM Byeongcheol)
