Program Note
Rana lives in the countryside with her widowed father. Her life is supported by two people: her disabled father and her lover Habib, who left to fight in the war and has never been heard from since. Her father feels sorry for her, so he encourages her to consider Rahmat’s marriage proposal. The film focuses on Rana’s everyday life. The beautiful foggy village symbolizes Rana’s simple life. The dim light in a lamp is also one of the important motifs in the film. Rana and her father borrow a lamp from Rahmat, and Rana goes to a neighboring village to buy a lamp wick to return it to him. The light in the lamp in the foggy little town is just like that of life. It is also a symbol of her lover for whom Rana is waiting. (KIM Ji-Seok)
