Sociological contemplation about awkwardness. Long conversation about a couch, Routine Holliday is a film which can be explained by a simple single line, but at the same time cannot be explained properly. On a national holiday, some people suddenly visit Tuo Ga’s apartment. First, there comes a middle-aged man with his son. Another man comes after that, and a neighbor man whose cup Tuo Ga once borrowed also follows suit. So four grown-up men talk sitting in a couch. But long silences ooze in between the short, meaningless conversations. And nothing happens after all. Director Hongqi Li says he just wanted to tell a quiet story: a story without any love or hatred. He wanted to show a story in which nothing of good or bad intention, happiness or sadness exists. He is sure to have watched and enjoyed the situation he created: four strangers under extremely awkward conditions. This is a similar circumstance to what Tuo Ga saw on the roof of the building - two blind men facing each other on the street and not knowing how to step aside to make way for each other.
