Program Note
This film is based on the true story of the women’s handball team during the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Handball Olympic medalist Mi-sook works as an employee at a big shopping mart when her team is disbanded. Meanwhile, Hae-kyung, who was working as a coach in Japan, returns to Korea as the replacing head coach of the Korean national handball team. She gathers all the veteran athletes including Mi-sook to strengthen the power and thus improve the moral fiber of the current team. Forever the Moment follows the formula of a sports drama but it does not only focus on the splendid success and comeback of the team. The opponents that the housewives-turned-athletes have to compete against are not just the other team on the court but also the social prejudices regarding gender, age, and housewife status. Fighting against such unjust conventions becomes a difficult
match just as the game itself. A leading Korean female director Yim Soon-rye incorporates the aspects of the other game, known as life, into the formula of a sports drama with a loving childlike eye. (LEE Sang-yong)
