Program Note
A police officer of 15 years, Kang Chul-joong hands in his resignation in disgust. However, his resignation is delayed due to a murder case at a high school. He starts to go after Lee Won-sool, the CEO of Kuh-sung Corp. During the process, Kang Chul-joong appears more like a gangster than the gangsters themselves. The pleasure of the Public Enemy series lies in this. Through Kang Chuljoong’s use of ‘violence’ in the name of justice as means to stop the violence of the criminals, it provides the basic pleasure of mastering force by using force. Kang Chul-joong acts like a gangster. He goes to one of Lee Won-sool’s businesses and hassles the place by picking fights. In contrast, Lee Won-sool is a cool bad guy who is expanding his business to a public enterprise by establishing a scholarship foundation. The reversal of justice and injustice in this series has long provided the Koreanpublic with something to scrutinize. The third film in this series offers an upgraded satirical humor through the scenario written by writer and Korea’s representative director Jang Jin. (LEE Sang-yong)
