Due to her mother-in-law’s insistence, a country wife Soon-ee visits her husband Sang-gil, who has enrolled in the army. However, the husband, who has left behind a girlfriend at the university he attended, gives her a cold response. When she goes back to visit him, she finds out that he had volunteered and been dispatched to the Vietnam War. She boards a ship to go to Vietnam by becoming a member of a band that visits the soldiers on the front line. Once Soon-ee arrives in Vietnam, she changes her name to ‘Sunny’. It is her declaration to live a new life as well as her new name as a singer. She meets Korean, Vietnamese, and US soldiers amidst the war. Unlike the men who are faced with the enemy’s gunpoint, as well as power and death, Sunny is able to get acquainted with a variety of people in Vietnam, a country at the crossroads between life and death in the 1970s. Through Sunny’s experience, the audiences are given an overall view of the war. Sunny depicts the ordeals of a woman in the 1970s, while criticizing war at the same time. (LEE Sang-yong)
