Program Note
Eon-ju, a private tutor lives in a packed student-apartment. She is sick of poverty and works hard to get her own room. She drops by a realtor’s office as often as possible to see what is there. One day, she witnesses a homeless person coming out of a huge time-share in a rich town. It turns out to be the house of Seok-hee, a middle-aged woman. Eon-ju envies what Seok-hee possesses, but Seok-hee is overwhelmed by loneliness. Seok-hee always prepares meals for the homeless who saved her life. This film is reminiscent of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, and the director Goh Tae-jeong fills every room with the lives and desires of lonely and hurtful women. Eon-ju decides to buy the house, but faces a new problem when her boyfriend has a traffic accident; Seok-hee attempts to kill herself when she experiences a new feeling or romance. The voices of women who are stuck in their own rooms are low and depressing. (LEE Sang-yong)
