Program Note
Tired of her job, TV producer Su-jung, who makes tear-jerking human documentaries for a living, decides to go to Africa to make a documentary about a lion. While an accident with her crew prevents her departure, she happens to meet a man who thinks of himself as Superman. Though she regards him as just another weirdo at first, his sincerity moves her. Characters in Chung Yoon-chul’s films always dream of a paradise. Like Cho-won in Malaton, Song longs for the wildness in Africa. What makes her find her own value and potential, however, is not Africa but rather her tiresome everyday life. As Superman says, “it’s not a powerful force but a little key that opens a big iron gate. All of us have that key”, A Man Who Was Superman brings out human value that each and everyone has in his or her mind. (LEE Sang-yong)
