Program Note
Born as identical twins, RuoLan and RuMei used to change their clothes to trick people. Now as grownups, RuMei has become a famous star, while her older sister RuoLan, lives an ordinary life, and intensely envies her sister. Ryo is a Japanese man who works as a clockmaker in China. After losing a loved one, he is trapped in the past. RuMei and Ryo develop a romantic relationship after Ryo gave RuMei a watch that runs five minutes late, but Ryo still feels a certain distance between him and RuMei. The twin sisters leave for a trip, only to face an unfortunate accident. RuMei survives, but RuoLan’s fiance and Ryo cannot be sure whether the surviving woman is RuMei or not. Based on the novel written by Honda Takayoshi, Japan’s young actor, Miura Haruma played Ryo, and China’s rising star Ryu Shishi performed a dual role of the twin sisters. This melodrama depicts a sad love between a man who lives in his own world and whose time is five minutes away from others’ and a woman who cannot be understood due to such a five-minute difference.
