Program Note
A bittersweet story about a daughter who comes to understand and forgive her father after his death. Imelda runs a garment business, and one day hears about the lonely death of her father. As she prepares for the funeral she reflects on her past with him. Her father was a workaholic shoemaker who lost his wife when she fled to Hawaii and later his daughter when Imelda followed her. As she searches for the perfect shoes for her father’s burial, she meets the people who worked with him as
well as Tess, a woman he had an affair with. Through them, and now as a mature adult, all the questions she had in her heart are answered, like puzzle pieces coming together. The death of her father also parallels the downfall of the shoe industry that had once boomed in the city of Marikina in the Philippines. And former first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, known for her amazing shoe collection, makes a special cameo appearance, making this film all the more interesting to watch. (KIM Ji-seok)
