Program Note
Working at a supermarket, a single mother lives with her two daughters. Their ordinary life is crushed when the younger girl kills herself. The surviving sister, Man-ji, meets with her dead sister’s friends to find out why, and the sad secrets of the young girl are gradually revealed. Following Punch(2011), director Lee Han once again adapted the novel of writer Kim Ryeo-ryeong into a film. The bullying against the 14-year-old girl was not out of serious malice, but this did leave an inerasable scar in the young girl’s heart. And the school, friend and family are all responsible for neglecting the girl. The process of digging into the girl’s suicide discloses the guilty feelings of the family and friends. Actress Kim Hee-ae has made a comeback to the cinema after 21 years, and Go Ah-sung, widely known for her roles in Bong Joon Ho’s films played the surviving sister. Kim Hyang-Gi and Kim Yoo-jung performed as the bullied sister and her friend, respectively, and Yoo Ah-in of Punch provides an impressive supporting role. (NAM Dong-chul)
