Program Note
Six actresses from different generations come together for a magazine fashion shoot. The employees work in a tense atmosphere where a psychological tug-of-war enrages among the actresses. The actresses raise their voice as time goes by, and when the sponsored jewels do not arrive on time it results in a peak of nerves for all. When the worst is over and the women sit around confessing, each comes to appreciate and sympathize one another’s tumultuous life. They lament society’s lashes against divorcees as though they were wearing a scarlet letter, offering drinks in solace.
Director E J-yong moves in and out of reality and fiction seamlessly, listening to their stories. The hurt they have suffered as women and as actresses in the limelight is revealed naturally and though they differ in age and the generations they represent, all are in the same boat living their lives as stars or actresses. The film enables us to take a peek into their rumors as well their inner thoughts as Christmas night and starlight surrounds them in the final scene. (LEE Sang-yong)
