Eun-yi moves into a mansion to work as a maid after working in restaurants after her divorce. She is astounded by the splendor in the mansion thereby opening her to a new world and falls into a secret relationship with the lord of the house. The film is a remake of [Servant Girl] by director Kim Ki-young, reinterpreted by introducing an older maid and a younger one. Director Kim Ki-young focused on the struggle between a loyal wife and a maid in a patriarchal setting, while director Im Sang-soo’s work puts forward the desires of female among themselves rather than conflict surrounding the male. The film satirically presents the gap between the old and young maids while also shedding light on how females conspire together through revealing the conversation between the mother and daughter. The film more than anything becomes a female story. They support the male centered structure yet also threaten it. Such interest and topics have been handled repeatedly by the director Im after his film [Girl’s Night Out].
