Program Note
A man makes a call from Rotterdam looking for his lover. The call is received at a cafe in Korea. The man is looking for a woman named ‘Anna’. He says he will quit his search for her. Later we see five couples. One couple is new in love, one gay couple is exhausted after a long relationship, another couple has separated but has yet to part ways, the story unravels the worn out hearts of these characters. The fluttering hearts are easily forgotten and the scars of pain remain in them. However they still long for butterflies in their stomachs, itching scars waiting to heal, so their stories, conversations, speeches and lights in their eyes step closer and closer to the viewers. Director Kim Jongkwan brings back memories of love through the portrayal of these various couples taking us to look back on what sensibilities slip through our fingers in this world. The film captures scenes characteristic of the director’s sensitive touch juxtaposed with direct words of love whispered into the ears of the viewers. (LEE Sang-yong)
