Veteran sees director Ryoo Seung-wan and actor Hwang Jeong-min working together again following Ryoo’s previous film, The Unjust. Detective Docheol, who is keen and good at his job, expects a promotion when he finally cracks a big case. A truck driver he has helped before commits suicide by jumping off the roof of a big company’s building. After talking to the driver’s young son, Docheol finds something dubious about this case. He suspects Jo Taeho who is third-in-line to inherit the company, so he defies both the company and the police, both of whom try to hush it up, to investigate. Docheol refuses to give up and continues right to the end, coping with things intended to distract and hurt him, like managing director Mr. Choi and Mr. Jo’s right-hand man offering a luxury bag to his wife, and a senior police official interrupting his investigation. Fantasy it may be, but this is a detective action film with an obvious dichotomy between good and evil. Convincing dramatic development holds the attention throughout the film. (NAM Dong-chul)
