Program Note
Actor Jaeha and idol star Youngwoo are cast in Unchain, a stage drama about the love, hate, pain and deception between two men. Jaeha eagerly practices and doesn’t approve of Youngwoo’s insincere attitude. With repeated practice, however, Youngwoo gets closer to Jaeha and his performance improves, making the two men intimate enough that Jaeha invites Youngwoo to his place. Being involved in a homosexual play, they feel a sense of love towards each other in reality too. When their kiss scene is photographed, Jaeha’s girlfriend Heewon begins to find out about their relationship. Unlike Jaeha, who tries to end it, Youngwoo on the contrary, gets even bolder. Their real-life relationship overlaps with the play Unchain, destroying the boundary between reality and drama. Director Pang Eunjin’s ability both as an actress and a director has already been widely proven, and in this film she brings out her best, engineering a very tense climax where drama and reality merge into one.(NAM Dong-chul)
