Program Note
To Hyoju, a contract teacher, the head director’s daughter Hyeyoung is nuisance, depriving her of a regular teacher’s position. Hyeyoung is sweet to Hyoju, saying she knew her back in school, but Hyoju can’t remember any of that and is just uncomfortable with her. By chance, Hyoju comes to know about Hyeyoung’s relationship with Jaeha, a special student gifted in dance. Hyoju threatens Hyeyoung with exposing the inappropriate relationship. Now fear makes Hyeyoung do whatever Hyoju tells her to, but as time passes, the situation reverses, for Hyoju herself falls in love with Jaeha. Director Kim Taeyong made his debut with Set Me Free, and this film also centers on a character walking a tightrope between good and evil. The character’s behavior is generally controlled by emotions of jealousy and envy. Not that Hyoju in Misbehavior is an embodiment of jealousy that she behaves extremely. Class differences and its inequality can make anyone misbehave. A teenager boy for the femme fatale role is also Kim Taeyong’s distinct individuality. (NAM Dong-chul)
