One Night on the Wharf is a satirical black comedy with unique characters in a series of accidents. The members of a poetry-loving club in a village near the Yangtze leave for a picnic. After flirting with the worker at the snack bar by reciting poems, Dingzi tries to board the ship, but Baipi insists that he hid something in his bag. So, the long night on the wharf begins. Baipi takes the members of the poetry club to the security office while Li at the office gets back at Baipi for framing an innocent man. Then Li’s boss arrives. In the meantime, Dingzi hides away with the help of a female employee at the office. In the midst of the chaos, he doesn’t forget to recite a poem for her. This is the directorial debut for Han Dong, a famous artist from China. Jia Zhangke is one of the producers of the film. It is a series of happenings in a limited space and time and a feast of interesting characters. (KIM Young-woo)
