Program Note
Mr. Park, resident of a small Korean village, has died. His children and relatives attend the funeral to supposedly pay their respects. The eldest son should be mourning the most, but in this film director gazes the funeral as if it were a movie. The third son, a Christian proselyte from America, sings a psalm during the traditional ritual. One aunt tries to sell her insurance polices. Politicians ask for support. The daughter, the family′s black sheep, comes late with her live-in lover. For the living, the funeral is just a part of life, eating, drinking and chatting in the house of mourning.
