Program Note
Gordon is an old toad ready to retire as the forest police officer. One day, citizen squirrel is robbed of all his precious acorns, and Gordon must solve his last case. While Gordon is on a stakeout in the snowy forest, he meets a little mouse without home, job, or even a name. Impressed by the mouse’s outstanding sense of smell and cleverness, Gordon names the mouse Paddy and hires her as his assistant to take over his duties once he retires. Then they embark on solving the case. Who really stole the squirrel’s stash of acorns? Could it be the fearsome fox? Exciting and poignant, the film is based on the children’s book Detective Gordon: The First Case (written by Ulf Nilsson, illustrated by Gitte Spee), which was also published in Korea. The perfect chemistry between wise and understanding detective Gordon and quick-witted and brave Paddy is fun to watch, but the film is all the more poignant for its warm message - that there is always room in our hearts for love and acceptance for family and friends.
