Program Note
Women who experienced pregnancy and childbirth can recall how cold the delivery table was. Why should the process of giving a birth of one life be so cold and lonely? Our Happy Birth Day is about young women in Taiwan who share these worries and try alternative ways. Daisy wants to give birth to her third child in a warmer and more humane way than the birth of her two daughters, and Anais has long been thinking about alternative ways of pregnancy and childbirth. Then appear civic groups and midwives who encourage and support their challenge. The film, which seems to record a very personal experience, is actually the story of those who try to turn the pregnancy-birth experience into something more human. This film asks many questions to the Korean society where women′s self-esteem is declining in the face of the government policies to boost the sharply falling birthrate. (Huh Kyoung)
