Program Note
Basim, an immigrant from Côte d′Ivoire, saves Anna from being harassed on the road. They stick together afterwards, though Anna no longer speaks due to an unknown trauma. Basim is looking for a job and Anna is running away from a villain. They understand that they are both wounded and need not ask about each other’s pasts to share their sadness and care for each other. As their friendship and love grow, they travel through desolate lands and forests to arrive in Sardinia, where they make a home in an abandoned house. While Anna makes money working as a florist, Basim (who can’t work because he doesn’t have the necessary paperwork) cooks and takes care of Anna. Though wounded and on the run, they have the power to help each other and their solidarity is all the more strengthened by it. As their trust in each other grows, flashbacks slowly reveal the violence Anna suffered. The unexaggerated, honest performances by two actors who are immigrants in real life sparkle in the beautiful Sardinian scenery. (Cho HyeYoung)
